Jonn Martell - Project Management Professional - PMP
Jonn Martell is a member of PMI (Project Management Institute) and is
a PMP with years of experience with large projects. Jonn is an
experienced Project Manager with years of experience with multimillion
dollar projects. He specializes in network infrastructure projects.
Jonn Martell is Project Manager in Vancouver, BC. As Project Manager
for the UBC Wireless deployment from 2001 to 2004 he delivered a
massive wireless network ahead of its time, on budget and on time.
Although additional scope was added, the project stayed motivated and
on track.
In 2005, he completed the campus-wide deployments of the UBC VOIP
system for the Life Sciences building and the Micheal Smith building
providing UBC with a multi-hub firewall data and voice IP network
built with the latest technology using the best practices. Most new
buildings on campus are on VOIP and UBC benefited from a much needed
firewall technology for core networks.
Jonn inspired teams to delivered by getting in the trenches with them.
Many lessons were learned in the successful deployment of these
projects including why it's important to use your experts to cost
estimates and scope the project timetables.
Jonn was also able to negociate substantial discount with major
providers by identifying win-win solutions. The VOIP Project research
was completed in February 2005, Scope was scope approved in April
2005, RFP awared in June 2005 and production operational in August
2005! Projects this since and complexity don't happen overnight. The
team was motivated, understood the deliverables and delivered. UBC
saved thousands and ended with infrastructure.
Jonn's Project Management skills as an experienced project manager focus on:
- Scope Definition: What needs to be done to achieve success on your project?
- Timeline expections: Although most project managers are focused on
meeting time expections, we focus on meeting the timelines when they
are required. Let's face it, when projects that need to be completed
in time, need to be completed in time, Jonn Martell, Project Manager
delivers. But unless you are moving to a new building or plan an
special event that is time sensitive, most IT projects can, and
should, slip.
- Cost: We're cost effective. All our projects have come under
budget. When scope was added, budgets was added and we met all
expectations on the financial side. We feel that all Team Members
should be well compensated for exceptional performance and we feel
this critical in developing the best project teams.
Essentials in Project Management.
It's important to focus on what are the success factors for projects
before they even start. Once success factors are established, the
work begins to:
- What type of organisation are you?
- Are you a process-driven organisation that needs to outsource
project management while retaining very strong integration and
acceptance?
- Are you a matrix type of organisation that can make projects thrive
by involving operations early and ensuring smooth transitions top
operations?
- Are you a Project Management centric focused on project management
without worrying about operations?
We can adapt, but you need to help us define the type of organisation you are!
- Do you know what you want to accomplish and when? How important is
the "when"? Do you have a budget? Is the budget fixed? Who estimated
the budget and how?
- For Project Managers to deliver on projects, the decision makers
responsible for the budget need to define what they want to accomplish
and when. There are three constraints in Project Manager:
Deliverables (scope), timeline(completion date or timeframe) and cost
(of "the final bill from all fronts").
